If I had to say one word that would describe God’s activity here this summer, it would be ABUNDANCE. The summer, like any good story, has had its twists and turns, drama and climaxes; but throughout, the steadfast God which we serve and worship, has poured out blessing after blessing in abundance. The groups that have chosen to come and serve with us this summer have had remarkable experiences and have left with worldviews transformed by the unique instances where God would appear. Our staff have had opportunity after opportunity to be stretched in developing hearts of passion for those who have yet to understand the deep goodness that is God’s nature. God has arranged opportunities in abundance for our interns to help students process and understand what life with Christ looks like. As a full-time member of staff I do look expectantly to the things that we have in store for the rest of the summer.
This summer has provided for many opportunities for me to see students explore the relationship between celebration and worship. Truthfully, these two words shouldn’t ever be separated. Recently, we had a man and his family come into the sanctuary where we were hosting the evening programing. During a portion of the evening where students have the opportunity to come up and share “God-sightings” or give friends “Mad Props” to friends who have worked hard over the course of the day, a man came in with his family and walked up to the microphone and shared that he was confused by seeing a group of students screaming with excitement to go into the church. He revealed himself as a God fearing man and was touched to see students pursuing and worshiping God with the same tenacity and fervor that he did. Seeing how God is knitting together this community for his purposes is so encouraging. It serves as a catalyst for reorientation in this call to plant seeds for the kingdom.
